How long until I can see my website?

By by Kyle Fox

Congratulations on working with us to launch your website!

This is a big moment for you, we know that. We’ve launched hundreds of websites, and here’s a few things you need to know.

Propagation

The web is a complex connection of various mini-webs. When we hit ‘publish’ it’s not an immediate thing, it can take up to 48 hours for your website to be seen the same way around the world.

This time period is known as propagation. During this time, every single server across the entire internet is communicating with one another and updating their information. As you could expect, that is a lot of ground to cover. Because of this, coworkers, friends, and family around the world might see something different to what you see until the process is complete. There is nothing we can do to speed this up, so hang tight. If, after 48 hours, you still see something funky, just reach out to us.

Clear your Cache

In the meantime, there is something you can try on your own—clear your browser's cache.

Every time you visit a website for the first time, your browser stores information from the site so that it comes up faster the next time. This means that your browser might be showing you its saved data rather than what’s actually on the web. In order to update this saved data, you will need to clear your cache. If you’re unsure how to do this, just go to clear-my-cache.com, select ‘Detect my Browser’, and follow the instructions.

Report Issues After 48 Hours

We expect bugs. There are thousands of devices and browsers, and although we do a lot to prepare your site for this, there might be issues we need to manually resolve. We need some key information from you to quickly resolve these issues.

We’ve made reporting very easy using our Support Ticket Form. It will immediately forward the ticket to us and we will resolve it. You can always call us if you prefer that.

Time to Shine - Get Your Website Noticed

Once your website has made it out of propagation and is displaying properly across the web, it’s time to get it in front of eager eyes. Simply having a website go live does not mean it will instantly attract visitors. Luckily, there’s a solution: Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

SEM is an integral factor in attracting new visitors to a website and growing an online presence. For a brief overview, take a look at SEM at a Glance. In the meantime, think of SEM as a temporary fastpass to the front of the search engine line. SEM uses paid advertisements associated with assorted keywords that appear on search engine results pages. In other words, utilizing SEM will inject your website into the search results where it needs to be.

Both SEO and SEM should be working in tandem to help ensure your online marketing strategy is as good as it can be.

Don't know where to start? We do. Alopex is focused on results. We get those results by stretching our clients’ marketing budget further than their competitors’, all thanks to our key ingredient—data. Let us help your business grow even further; all you need to do is reach out or give us a call.
